In-plane uniaxial magneto-crystalline anisotropies in (Ga,Mn)As
In-plane shear strain has become experimentally accessible via postgrowth
lithography or application of a piezo stressor. Comparison of
observed and calculated magneto-crystalline anisotropies will be presented.
The in-plane symmetry breaking of "bulk" (Ga,Mn)As epilayers
is not understood microscopically but it can be modeled by an
additional uniaxial strain. The correspondence of such approach with
a generic microscopic symmetry lowering of As p-states forming the
top of the valence band will be discussed.
